As far as gym is placed in a mixed-use building there are two acoustical issues. One is the transmission of impact noise through construction. This type of noise is produced by heavy objects being dropped on the floor and people’s footsteps. The second is transmission of airborne noise caused by music, people etc. We used ‘floating floors’ to isolate impact noise. This construction consists of resilient pads laid down over the main floor and layers of boards placed on the top of the pads. The space between pads was filled with sound absorbent mineral wool. To isolate adjacent spaces, we covered walls with metal framing filled with sound absorbent mineral wool and covered it with soundproof triplex. After finishing the work new acoustic measures show reduced vibration and noise level in adjacent spaces.
