Audio recording studios, rooms for listening, home theaters

Usually people who start organising their own studio begin with searching on the net using the phrases "soundproofing for a recording studio". In a sense, of course, they are right. The studio should be protected from extraneous noise; and neighbours should also be protected from what is happening within the studio. However, this is not all. For recording studios, home theatres and listening rooms. Ensuring the correct organisation of the right acoustic environment is extremely critical. In the design and construction on premises of this type, it is necessary to solve not only issues of sound and vibration insulation, but also ensure an optimum internal sound environment.

When designing, each customer determines specific requirements for the acoustic parameters independently or relies on industry standards (OST) or international standards (for example, Dolby requirements for home theatres).

It is not an easy task to adequately soundproof a recording studio as there is no universal sound proofing material found in nature. Any recording studio with proper soundproofing, is created as an expertly designed structure that incorporates a set of engineered technological materials. As a rule, for any premise that requires sound insulation, the method of integrated sound insulation will be achieved by applying the “floor-wall-ceiling” system

The issues with sound vibration and acoustics within recording studios, listening rooms and home theatres:

  • Indoor soundproofing of the tone rooms and control rooms, as well as listening rooms and home theatres from each other, as well as from external sources of noise (vibration insulation of floors, insulation of walls and partitions, sound insulation of ceilings and floors)
  • Sound and vibration insulation of engineering equipment: reduction of noise from ventilation and air conditioning systems, refrigeration equipment noise, as well as other adjacent technical premises (vibration insulation of refrigerating machines, noise insulation of chillers, servers, etc.)
  • Creating the desired acoustic environment in studios, home theatres and listening rooms. Each type of premises (tone room, control room, listening room and home theatre) has its own optimum acoustic characteristics, with its own tolerances. The recommended values of the main acoustic parameter - reverberation time also depend on the volume of the room. The specified acoustic characteristics are achieved by applying on the walls and ceilings of the premises the required number of sound-absorbing finishing materials.
